Stand-Up Comedy for a September Evening

Open House is pleased to have secured James Cary to bring some laughter and light to a dark Friday night in September. James is a professional comedy writer, with writing credits for BBC sitcoms “Our Family” and “My Hero” and “Miranda” amongst others. He has also written for popular “one-liner” comedian, Milton Jones, on his Radio Show and has written his own shows for BBC Radio, too.

He regularly tours the UK with his own brand of comedy, and it is his latest show that we are hosting. You may be familiar with the famous book, “The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy” by Douglas Adams. If so, you will know it discusses the search for the answer to “Life, the Universe and Everything” – or more properly, the question about “Life, the Universe and Everything” which will make sense of the answer (42) which has already been discovered. James Cary is daring to take on a similarly large project, namely to explain “God, the Bible and Everything (in 60 minutes).”

Recent sales figures suggest that sales of the Bible are almost double this year compared with 2019. What with the Covid pandemic and the unsettled global political scene, it seems as if more people are looking for answers in ancient wisdom. Maybe you’ve got questions. (Haven’t we all?) Well, if you’ve ever wondered what it all means (life / the Bible / God etc), let James point the way. Or laugh at him trying.

“James Cary is a rare talent. Catch this show if you can. It was very funny.”

“Sometimes the Bible is hard to understand and you can’t see the wood for the trees, but comedy writers often see things that others don’t. Plus they bring jokes to the table. [This show] won’t only help you see the wood for the trees – it might also help you see a lot further!”

Friday 26th September at 7:30pm (doors and bar from 7pm).
Hunsdon Village Hall.
