Opening the Church Building

A church porch with open doors.

We’re making a change to a long-held practice. The church is now being opened…

For many years, St Dunstan’s Church Building has been locked apart from when services were being held. Access could always be arranged (with sufficient notice) for visits, but this hasn’t always suited local people – it is fine for those who are coming from a distance with a specific purpose in mind, but it hasn’t always helped villagers just wanting to call in.

Sadly, because of its remote location and past experiences of vandalism, the PCC does not feel able to leave the church unlocked at all times. However, we are now committing to ensuring the doors are open monthly on a Saturday so that anyone can just call in without prior notice (late morning until early afternoon). One of our church members will be pleased to welcome any visitors and to prepare a hot chocolate, tea or coffee for guests.

The building has a rich history and is full of historic memorials (check out our expanding history website for more information, especially its “Timeline”). If you enjoy history, we believe you will love the tales that the walls of Hunsdon Church could tell.

But of course, the church building is first and foremost a place of worship and prayer. It may therefore be that you would like to sit in the quiet where so many have sat over the centuries before and pray quietly for your family, your community or the world which daily presents us with such a heady mix of heartache and joy. You would be most welcome to do this. We are preparing some prayer aids which you may find helpful.

The dates on which the church will be open will be listed on the “What’s On” calendar on this Open House website (as well as on the general church calendar). There’s no need to book in – just turn up and enjoy the legacy we have inherited from the generations who have gone before us.
